Started as an idea in 2012, Giving Tuesday is a worldwide charitable campaign that raises funds for nonprofit organizations. It usually falls on the first Tuesday after Thanksgiving in the United States. This cause can be valuable to your organization as it gives you the perfect opportunity to raise funds for a specific cause during a time when the lens is 100% focused on charitable ventures.

Tips for Planning your Giving Tuesday Campaign

Your Giving Tuesday campaign should revolve around your community. Tell your donors about the people you serve and their stories; this way, they relate to what you’re all about. Create an excellent strategy to help you get noticed in the following steps:

Set Your Campaign Goals

  • What will your campaign focus on? 
  • Is it your customers, employees, or the community? 
  • Do you have a specific amount of money that you want to raise? 
  • How many people do you want to reach on social media? 

Once you have your goals mapped out, then you can create a timeline to achieve those goals.

Create a Landing Page for the Campaign on Your Website

Focus on telling your organization’s story by highlighting one or two programs. Share updates on the progress of the online donation you’ve set up for the campaign. You can also focus on content creation by sharing employees’ personal stories as they volunteer for Giving Tuesday.

Leverage Social Media

The goal here is visibility. You should have regular social media posts on all your sites. Remember to use the hashtag #GivingTuesday along with your unique organization hashtag when tweeting, posting, sharing, or snapping on social media. You can even send newsletters to your staff and clients/donors to remind them of the day.

When Giving Tuesday has passed, send thank you emails to all who took part; your donors, and the community. This charitable day boosts employee morale while expanding the businesses’ network through their community involvement.
